The Lean Smart Factory in Graben is an evolution based on the value creation principles of "one-piece flow" and "small factory unit”. Already in 2013 SEW started to implement their vision of Industry 4.0 and have developed concepts for logistics, assembly and production tasks.
Perfectly implemented lean principles and Industry 4.0 methods create the basis for networked efficient production in batch sizes of just one unit if needed. Therefore Work-cells are uniquely designed creating fully flexibility so they can handle complex customization combined with a modular logistics concept (AGV).
Also people will continue being at the center of the value chain,telling the machines what to do (and not the other way around). The SEW teams focus on product optimization, cooperative leadership, skillful problem solving and the application of lean concepts. The symbiosis of "people and technology" along the entire value creation chain – from configuration and production to assembly and delivery. This “decentral” and “self-optimization” production philosophy is far away from the “dark, unmanned factory” controlled by a central computer.

Siemens [Amberg, 05/06/19]
Siemens Amberg has undergone an impressive digital transformation in recent years. IT systems now monitor and optimize all processes based on continuous data exchange between the machines and the manufactured products. In this way, a transparent factory has been obtained where IT systems escalate when something threatens to go wrong.
Although machines and computers can control around 75 percent of the chain fully automatically, human input remains necessary. Follow-up, quick response, problem solving and creativity are now the daily challenges for employees.
In this way the automated and digital Siemens factory can now produce very flexible the growth (12x) of Simatic-PLC (1000 variants) with very high quality (6 sigma) without people increase !
Siemens is proving that Lean manufacturing, automatization , digitisation and motivated employees can reinforce each other and go hand in hand.

Approximately 13.700 employees are working and pioneering in the different fields of activities as "Electronic Controls for conventional and alternative drive topologies” and "Exhaust Gas Treatment & Sensors System”. Atmo is a leading Industry 4.0 supplier for assembly, process and testing equipment. They developed the next Industry 4.0 generation and innovation for equipment engineering (Nexeed system) for all Bosch plants worldwide and external customers. We will discover this all on the industry 4.0 tour.
Bosch Diesel systems : Ind 4.0 @Production & logistics
At the CP4 high-pressure diesel pump production we will experience a Lean , connected , transparant (MES) and leveled value stream production. Bosch bases its one-piece flow system and digital supply chain on eight principles: process orientation, pull system, standardization, perfect quality, flexibility, transparent process, waste elimination and CIP. Therefore they have made people the heart of the advanced manufacturing.
Motivated and dedicated people in workcells are the basis to deliver individual customer request on time with high quality.
